Greetings from your DE!
Hey Everyone!  Hope your summer has been terrific and you're excited about revving things up again in the fall.  A few notes:

  • On August 10th, we will be hosting a Council School Night Meeting.  Invitations will be extended to folks who will be volunteering to conduct School Nights for Scouting at our local Elementary Schools, people that will be helping organize those School Nights, and any Cubmaster or Volunteer for a Pack that the School will be feeding into.  For the Cubmasters and Volunteers, this meeting, albeit informative, isn't required of you to attend.  The location is still pending, and will be updated.
    • The information of the meeting on the 10th will be distributed at our First Roundtable of the Year, which will be on August 12th.  A side note:  We will be holding our Roundtables at a new location, offically.  Asbury UMC has been welcome establishment for our Roundtables for the past few years and we are grateful for their hospitality.  Our District Roundtables will now be held at Shandon United Methodist Church, at the usual time of 6:30.  I urge ALL Unit Leaders to attend our inaugural meeting at Shandon UMC.  Cubmasters, especially, will need to be there to gather information from the Council School Night Meeting, as well as Dates and Times for your individual unit's School Nights, and Boy Talks (if you are able to help with those.)  The efforts volunteers will be putting forth to aide you all in School Nights will be very appreciated, and if you yourself would like to conduct a School Night or two for the good of the District, please contact me.
  • The 2010 Popcorn Gala will be on August 19th at the Colonial Life Arena, starting at 6:30.  Units participating in the sale are STRONGLY URGED TO COME!!!  This Gala will be nothing like any you've seen before.  Trail's End is giving each unit a large "Popcorn Sale in a Box" for your unit's use, which is full of items that will be useful to you in your sale efforts, including a Marshmallow Crossbow, for you to use at your discretion.  Your attendance on behalf of your unit will also gain you extra commission for your sale, so it's a win-win.  Again, all units participating in the sale should definitely be at the Gala.  Any questions, either contact me or Pam Roberts, Congaree District Popcorn Chair, at  803-353-0398.
  • Congaree District Cuboree will be taking place at October 2 at a location TBD.  More info to come.
  • The South Carolina State Fair will be going on at the SC State Fairgrounds from October 13-24.  Scouts and Scouters are encouraged to come out to the Fair and celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting at the Ruff Building.  We will be there everyday with displays and stations set up about Scouting.  Scouts and Scouters that attend the Fair in Uniform will be admitted FREE OF CHARGE!!!  Come on out for good times, good food and fun with Scouting!
The Summer leading into the Fall is a great time to start spreading the word to potential Scouts in your neighborhood, church, or sports teams.  I'm looking forward to seeing you all again in the upcoming months and talking to leaders about ways to help recruit new youth.  I'll be in touch with new information about School Nights, Popcorn Sale and other events upcoming in the District and Council.  Thank you all for what you do for Scouting and Happy Trails!

Yours in Scouting,

Will
