Shooting Sports Instructor Training Program
The Training offered by the council shooting sports team will certify adult instructors to run shooting sports ranges for all council events. It will give an understanding of range safety, how to setup a range, Range rules, Indian Waters Council rules, regulations, policies and procedures and liability issues for all council events.
These events included Day camps, Cub Scout/Webelos Scout Resident Camps, Cub Partner Weekend, Webelos Weekend, Haunted Forest, District Cuboree's, council-managed family camping programs. Other council Boy Scout activities like: Shooting Sports Weekends, Camp Barstow troop shooting sports weekends, Camp Barstow Summer Camp Shooting Sports Merit Badges, where all standards for BSA shooting sports are enforced. The Shooting Sports Directors training is accomplished with approval from your Scout Executive and a week at BSA National Camp School.

These are the important dates involving Shooting Sport Volunteers; both Cub Scout Shooting Sports trained volunteers, as well as Instructors. Please take note of the dates, place them on your calendar and try and participate. I can’t and won’t do it all, I love what I do and don’t want to burn-out !!! So, I feel that there’s enough time with this head’s up for you guys and gals, to involve yourselves and show off some of that awesome training you’ve received. Let’s have some fun out there !!!
CHANCES FOR TRAINING:
Thursday & Saturday, March 11 & 13, 2010, NRA Rifle Instructor Course, IF THERE IS A DEMAND.
Must be at least 6 confirmed and paid, by March 1st. Email or call me by cell phone (803-237-3271 or 803-359-9646) with questions, maximum of 12 participants for the class.
Saturday, May 15, 2010, USA Archery Instructor Course, IF THERE IS A DEMAND. Must be at least 6 confirmed and paid, by May 3rd. Email or call me by cell phone (803-237-3271 or 803-359-9646) with questions, maximum of 12 participants for the class.
CHANCES FOR USING YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND SAFETY TRAINING:
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, February 19, 20, 21, Troop/Pack 10 Shooting Sports Weekend, (just for the day), Archery, Rifle & Shotgun @ Camp Barstow Ranges, plus temporary ranges at the old shotgun range for Webelos Shooting Sports. Cub Scout Shooting Sports trained volunteers, as well as Rifle and Archery Instructors. Program starts at 8am (sharp) to 5pm. If you can come out on Friday afternoon to help set-up, that would be great.
Saturday, March 20, 2010, Catholic Boy Scout Camporee, (just for the day), Archery, Rifle & Shotgun.
@ Camp Barstow Ranges. Cub Scout Shooting Sports trained volunteers, as well as Instructors. Program starts at 8am (sharp) to 4:30pm.
Saturday, March 27, 2010, Venture Shooting Sports Weekend, (just for the day), Archery, Rifle, & Shotgun @ Camp Barstow Ranges. Starting at 9am(?) to 4pm. These days may change, will be notified by Venture Advisor, Luther Lown….
Note: Saturday, March 27th, 2010, is also part of a Summer Camp Staff Development Weekend and Merit Badge University @ U.S.C.

Saturday, June 5, 2010, Council Summer Camp Staff development and Summer Camp weeks 1 through 4, and Cub Resident Camp and Webelos Waters Camp, July 11 through 17.
September 2010, Webelos Woods (just for the day), Archery and Rifle @ Camp Barstow Ranges. Cub Scout Shooting Sports trained volunteers, as well as Instructors. Starting at 9am (?) to 4pm.
October 2010, Haunted Forest (just for the day), Archery and Rifle @ Camp Barstow Ranges. Cub Scout Shooting Sports trained volunteers, as well as Instructors. Starting at 9am (?) to 4pm.
December 26 - 30, 2009, Klondike Derby; Possible Archery, Rifle & Shotgun @ Camp Barstow Ranges The program on the council calendar lists field sports. Shooting sports are unknown as of 11/13/2009.
