Rifle and Shotgun Shooting Instructor Training
This is an NRA based Instructor Training for the Rifle Discipline. The training involves an instructor course (train the trainer), the firearm student and Instructor course, and the Range Safety Officer course. These courses are accomplished with a 4 hour evening session, along with a Full Saturday of instruction at Camp Barstow. The NRA Range Safety Officer Course and The NRA Rifle Student course is self-study program requiring 8 to 12 hours of home preparation. Both of these courses must be completed prior to the course.
This course will certify the instructor to teach NRA courses that are part of the policies and procedures of the Boy Scouts of America. Upon completion of this course, you will be a certified Merit Badge counselor for the Rifle Merit Badge. The trained instructor will be able to safely run programs at the Camp Barstow rifle range. The Rifle Instructor can train those adults in the Cub Scout Shooting Sports Program working the BB-gun Range. The instructor will receive an NRA Certification Card in the Rifle Discipline, as well as a BSA Training Card. The card will be issued after the participant manages a rifle range during a council event at Camp Barstow and then will be certified by the Shooting Sports Training Director. Their name will be placed on file in the Council Training Lists. The NRA Certification Card is renewable for up to 3 years.
This training is volunteers in the shooting sports program knowledge and establishes a pool of trained volunteers to maintain safe ranges at Camp Barstow and any off-site events.
The instructor will receive an NRA Certification Card in the discipline trained, as well as a BSA training card and there name is placed on file in the Council Training Report. The NRA Certification Card is renewable for up to three years.
The
Training offered by the council shooting sports team will certify adult
instructors to run shooting sports ranges for all council events. It
will give an understanding of range safety, how to setup a range, Range
rules, Indian Waters Council rules, regulations, policies and
procedures and liability issues for all council events.
These events included Day camps, Cub Scout/Webelos Scout Resident
Camps, Cub Partner Weekend, Webelos Weekend, Haunted Forest, District
Cuboree's, council-managed family camping programs. Other council Boy
Scout activities like: Shooting Sports Weekends, Camp Barstow troop
shooting sports weekends, Camp Barstow Summer Camp Shooting Sports
Merit Badges, where all standards for BSA shooting sports are enforced.
The Shooting Sports Directors training is accomplished with approval
from your Scout Executive and a week at BSA National Camp School.

Cub Scout Shooting Sports trained volunteers, as well as Instructors.
Please take note of the dates, place them on your calendar and try and
participate. I can’t and won’t do it all, I love what I do and don’t
want to burn-out !!! So, I feel that there’s enough time with this
head’s up for you guys and gals, to involve yourselves and show off
some of that awesome training you’ve received. Let’s have some fun out
there !!!
