Mission Statement
"Scouting for Food" is a Boy Scout activity involving both Scouts and Scout Leaders working to feed the underprivileged in the community by applying non-perishable food items to local pantries. This year's theme is "Strong Youth, Strong Values, Strong Community"
Key Dates
January 14, 2010 - Roundtable Land Rush Maps
January 22, 2010 - Deadline for pre-order Scouting for Food patches
February 6, 2010 - Scouting for Food distribution
February 13, 2010 - Scouting for Food pick-up
February 26, 2010 - Last day for Tally Forms for units to be considered for a Scouting for Food ribbon
The food your unit collects can be taken to any pantry or food bank of your choice. A
list of pantries that will be open on Saturday, February 6th.
Bags and Land-Rush
It is most important to remember at attach a bag note from your Scout unit with EVERY bag!
January 14 Roundtable Night they should distribute maps of assigned territories from Land Rush.
Patch
Commemorative patches will once again be available for your unit to pre-order and pre-pay ($1.50 per patch) at the Scout Service Center. This must be done by Friday, January 22nd. There will be no second order placed with the patch company.
Ribbons
For the 2010 Scouting for Food drive, each participating Cub pack and Scout troop will be able to earn ribbons that reflect the unit’s level of accomplishment.
White Ribbon: Each pack and troop that collects an average of at least 20 food items up to and including 39 food items per active Cub or Scout in the unit will earn a white ribbon.
Red Ribbon: Each pack and troop that collects an average of at least 40 food items up to and including 59 food items per active
Cub or Scout in the unit will earn a red ribbon.
Blue Ribbon: Each pack and troop that collects an average of 60 or more food items per active Cub or Scout in the unit will earn a blue ribbon.
Gold Ribbon: Gold ribbons will be awarded to the pack and troop in each district that collect the highest average number of food
items per Cub or Scout in the unit. Gold ribbons will also be awarded to the pack and troop in each district that collects the largest total food items.
Tall Form Deadline
Once again we will be utilizing the Tally Form to document the number or weight of items collected. The Tally Form will be collected at many of the area pantries and pre-ordered patches will be distributed that day at the various food pantries. ALL TALLY FORMS MUST BE TURNED IN OR FAXED TO THE INDIAN WATERS SCOUT SERVICE CENTER, 803-750-9855, BY FRIDAY FEBRUARY 26 FOR THE UNIT TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE RIBBONS.
